Awards 2009 - Supermini: Mini

The Mini has picked up our supermini title every one of the seven years it has been on sale, and looking at the competition this is a real achievement.

Among others, the new Ford Fiesta, and VW's Polo are strong contenders, each offering powerful arguments to both driver and fleet manager.

However, none can come close to the Mini's biggest asset, and that's the residual values, which really mark it out from the crowd. After three years it holds onto nearly 50% of its value - miles ahead of its nearest rival, the Polo, on 37%.

Despite falling sales for several rivals, 2008 was another record year for Mini. Fleet registrations were up nearly 5% on 2007 to around the 11,000 mark. With the Cooper diesel emitting only 104g/km and competitive whole-life costs across the range, the popular supermini seems well set to cope with the next 12 months, especially with the new threat of Alfa's Mito looming.
