The start point for the best source of fleet information

Awards 2011 - MPV: Ford S-max

Date: 25 January 2011

Ford retains the large MPV award, but it's the S-max that takes it, beating last year's winner, and its bigger brother, the Galaxy.

The S-max won our Business Car of the Year prize in 2007 when it first appeared on the market to prove that people carriers needn't be dull to look at or to drive, and the following 12 months on our long-term test fleet proved its attraction.

The seven-seater reached its mid-life point last year, with a facelift that consisted of tweaking the front and rear styling, new 115hp and 163hp diesel engines, the addition of the Powershift automatic and the first of Ford's new turbocharged Ecoboost engines.

The big development for 2011 is the introduction of the 1.6 petrol Ecoboost, joining the 2.0 brought in last year, with the new one bringing emissions down to 164g/km.

This year's success will be particularly pleasing for Ford, given the increased challenges it faced late in 2010 with the launch of the new Volkswagen Sharan and Seat Alhambra siblings.
