BusinessCar Awards 2013 - Mini-MPV: VW Touran

Date: 22 January 2013

A sporadic past winner in this category, the Volkswagen Touran makes a return for 2013, knocking the Ford C-max off the top spot. The original model debuted in 2003 and the Touran has since established itself as a sector stalwart with the German firm's usual top build quality and plenty of room.

A heavy revision in 2010 brought the Touran up to date with the Golf and added a series of cleaner engines. Of greatest note to business car operators is the 1.6-litre TDI Bluemotion model, which emits 121g/km and returns 61.4mpg. The 1.2-litre TSI petrol Bluemotion is also worth a look for lower-mileage drivers, as it offers a respectable 139g/km and 47.9mpg - and, at £21,530 for the SE spec model, it has a lower P11D value than the TDI diesel counterpart's £22,835 with the same spec.

The middle row of seats is particularly spacious, although some rival MPVs are more practical in the way that their seats fold and slide. Volkswagen also upped equipment levels when the Touran was last updated, adding the likes of six airbags and roof rails as standard.
