Peter Beaumont of Here answers The Final Corner

Date: 15 November 2016

1 What was your first job?

My first-ever (holiday) job was bagging potash for the British Waterways Board in Worcester. I wouldn't recommend that to anyone!

2 What was your first company car, and what do you drive now?

My first company car was a Peugeot 508 and now I drive an Audi A4 Avant.

3 What did you listen to on your last car journey?

2112 by Rush (two of the band members are pictured, left) . The only problem I have is making sure my speed doesn't increase with the tempo of the music - it's so easy to get carried away by old rock anthems when I'm driving.

4 What one thing do you wish you could do better?

I wish I could sing and play guitar - I'm a frustrated rock star.

5 What's your biggest achievement?

Rowing for GB in the 1988 Olympics.

6 What are your three favourite films?

Chariots of Fire (as an ex-athlete it always makes me so proud); Apollo 13 (it's scary how little technology was needed to get those rockets into space); A Beautiful Mind (shows what one person can achieve, especially in overcoming a disability)

7 What's the stupidest thing you've done?

I once put the wrong postcode in the satnav and blamed the mapping for taking me to the wrong location.

8 What was the most hotly debated topic at your last meeting

When we will see autonomous cars driving on UK roads.

9 What would be your specialist subject on Mastermind?

With my lifelong passion for geography and my job, it would have to be maps!

10 What's the worst thing about your job?

It's frustrating that there are only 24 hours in a day, as there's so much we can do.

11 What one law would you make or change?

I'd reduce the age limit for learning to drive to 16. I would then make it mandatory for them to pass an industry-standard low-powered vehicle test and retake in a higher-powered vehicle at 17.

12 What did you want to be when you grew up?

I never did know what I wanted to be and I still don't. Life is a journey - who knows what the rest of my life will hold but I'm excited to find out.

13 Who is your ideal celebrity date?

With my love of gadgets and sport it would have to be Suzi Perry.
