BusinessCar Awards 2016: Leasing and fleet management - Alphabet

Date: 26 January 2016

Alphabet has held this leasing and fleet management award for five years now. It's quite an achievement for the company, which has grown significantly in that time following the acquisition of ING Car Lease in 2011.

It could be knocked back a spot to fourth place in the sector by the combined Arval and GE Capital book, following the former's acquisition of the latter, but Alphabet is now firmly established as a major UK leasing player. It had just over 140,000 vehicles on its fleet in the BusinessCar BC50 figures published in October, putting it 7000 vehicles behind second-placed Leaseplan.

The combined Arval and GE volume was put at around 145,000. However, Alphabet has continued to build its now wide-ranging offering, adding around 5000 extra units through its new broker business in 2015, volume that chief executive Richard Schooling (pictured above) says the company wouldn't have accessed through its existing schemes. Alphabet is now working with around 40 broker partners.

The Alphacity car-sharing and Alphaelectric plug-in vehicle programmes continue to grow, positioning the lease firm as an expert in these fields, while Schooling sees light commercials as an area of potential growth, too.
