Nissan's Infiniti luxury brand heads to Europe

Date: 15 March 2007

Nissan's luxury Infiniti brand will be launched in Europe at next year's Geneva motor show.

The Nissan equivalent of Toyota's luxury Lexus brand will make its public bow at next March's show before arriving in the UK in around 18 months' time.

The brand has already achieved success in America, and the European launch coincides with revisions to the entire product line-up. The launch range will include a new version of the butch FX off-roader, the new BMW 3-series Coupe-rivalling G35 coupe and a smaller BMW X3 rival, the latter two both due to be revealed at next month's New York motor show.

The range will be petrol-only for the first year, but an all-new Renault-sourced V6 diesel will arrive around the end of 2009.

Infiniti bosses are still looking at exactly how they will market the brand in the UK, but a partnership with a UK dealer group experienced with premium brands is expected despite GM and Pendragon's absence of success using a similar model with Cadillac.

"We're studying the way Lexus and Cadillac have been introduced and learning from their experiences," said an Infiniti spokesman.
