Boss sees big opportunity for Audi TT diesel

Date: 27 March 2008

TT

Audi UK boss Jeremy Hicks is predicting a "significant opportunity" in the corporate market for the firm's new TT diesel.

The 170PS 2.0 TDI will arrive in the UK this summer as part of a trio of TT developments that also takes in the range-topping performance TT-S model and a four-wheel drive version of the 2.0-litre petrol variant.

But it's the diesel that's seen as the biggest opportunity.

"To put diesel in our most iconic model is a fabulous open-up opportunity for TT," said Hicks. "It's something we've been very keen to do."

On sale in June, Hicks expects the diesel TT to account for 30% of the coupe and roadster's sales, although the 2.0 turbo petrol model will still be dominant. That ratio compares with Audi's cross-range diesel average of around 60%.

"People's perceptions are changing and diesel is no longer associated with a lack of performance," said Hicks.
