Peugeot Boxer knocks out gear fault

Date: 14 October 2008

Owners of the latest Peugeot Boxer who find their vehicle judders when they reverse - especially on an incline - will be pleased to hear that the manufacturer has found a fix for the problem.

"The juddering emanates from the clutch," said a Peugeot spokesman. "A software download has been developed that increases engine torque at low speeds, which should resolve the difficulty.

"If that doesn't work the dealer will fit a lower ratio reverse gear. As things stand reverse is higher than first on this vehicle."

The spokesman continued:?"It seems to be a particular problem with Boxers powered by the 120 HDi diesel although some dealers have reported that it affects 100 HDi models too."

The spokesman added that vehicles currently being assembled won't have the fault. Owners of Boxers already in service plagued by it should contact their local dealer, who will fix it free of charge.

Fiat's Ducato and Citroen's Relay share the same fundamental design as the Boxer thanks to a long-standing joint venture between Fiat and PSA Peugeot Citroen, but neither Fiat nor Citroen were able to say how they would address the fault at the time of writing.
