Pre-Budget Report 2009

Chancellor Alistair Darling used the latest pre-Budget report to confirm planned first year VED changes for cars and some motorcycles.

Set to come into force next April, these will see cars in Bands A to E (sub-100 to 140g/km of CO2) enjoy tax savings of between £5 and £30. Vehicles in the higher emitting Band G to M categories will all attract more tax, with fees rising between £5 and £30. As an example, Band I drivers (176-185g/CO2) will have to pay £200, up from £175.

Fleet managers overseeing motorcycles will also face limited changes to their taxation status, with big-engined bikes in the top two band seeing respective VED increase of £2 and £4, to £50 and £70. Machines in lower tax bands will not be affected.
