Toyota exits van market 'temporarily'

Date: 06 October 2011   |   Author:

Toyota will be out of the van market for an undefined period from late 2011, as the Euro5 emissions regulations spell the end of the long-serving Hiace.

Toyota GB managing director John Williams confirmed that the panel van will be discontinued, but wouldn't be drawn regarding a replacement. "We'll be out of the segment temporarily, we're looking at options to come back but we will stop selling at the end of this year," he said.

But Toyota's commercial vehicle commitment is illustrated by a Euro5 version of the Hilux, that also gets a subtle refresh for November deliveries. The new 2.5-litre diesel engine is 25hp more powerful than its predecessor, and the multimedia system and interior plastics are upgraded

"Hilux has a huge following in the fleet market based on user experience, people might try something else but they come back - they work them hard, it's seriously tested," said Williams.
