The start point for the best source of fleet information

VW and BMW grab green ACFO gongs while Ford takes the big one

Date: 15 November 2011

Green fleet models were honoured at the 28th annual ACFO awards earlier this month. The Volkswagen Golf Bluemotion won Green Vehicle of the Year, while BMW's Efficient Dynamics programme claimed the Environmental Initiative award.

There were a total of 135 nominations across the seven categories, and the Green Vehicle of the Year award was the second most hotly contested category after Fleet Car of the Year, with 13 manufacturer nominations.

Ford's vehicles collectively won four awards. The Focus picked up Fleet Car of the Year and Fleet Safety Initiative, courtesy of its optional Driver Assistance Pack.

A £750 option, the pack alerts drivers to changes in the speed limit, and adds numerous driving aids such as a lane-keeping aid and lane-departure warnings. The Transit Connect van was voted Small Van of the Year and the standard Transit won Large Van of the Year.

The awards are voted for online by ACFO members, and this year's ceremony was staged at the Birmingham Hilton Metropole Hotel.

ACFO chairman Julie Jenner said: "Fleet decision-makers are reliant on motor manufacturers to deliver vehicles that are cost-effective to operate, safe, reliable and environmentally friendly."
