VW reveals Bluemotion Transporter

Date: 26 October 2012   |   Author: Jack Carfrae

Volkswagen has launched a range of Bluemotion-branded Transporter medium vans.

The panel van, people carrier and Kombi have all undergone the changes that boost fuel economy and slash emissions.

The cleanest variant - the specially homologated low-roof Transporter 114 Bluemotion - returns 44.8mpg and 166g/km.

VW also claims that it is capable of 780 miles on one tank of diesel.

There are also a further two models under the Bluemotion Technology banner with 84hp and 114hp respectively, both of which offer economy and emissions figures of 40.4mpg and 184g/km.

Each is said to be capable of a further 50 miles per tank than the standard Transporter as a result of the changes.

Low rolling-resistance tyres, battery regeneration systems and cruise control (to better maintain average speeds) are the elements behind the increased eco performance, while the greenest Bluemotion model also has a tyre pressure warning light to remind drivers to keep the psi at the correct level for economy purposes.
