The start point for the best source of fleet information

Alphabet to add more electric vehicles to Discovery pack

Date: 20 November 2013   |   Author:

Leading lease firm Alphabet is hoping to add more plug-in vehicles to the Discovery package it has launched as part of its pioneering Alpha Electric scheme designed to help companies adopt electric vehicles if the business case is right for their fleet.

The package allows fleets to take on cars for a period of three to six months to ensure they are right for the business, with Alphabet offering £500 towards the cost of a long-term lease if it is taken out at the end of the original period.

At present, only the range-extender BMW i3 and Toyota Prius Plug-in are available under the scheme, but Alphabet mobility solutions manager Kit Wisdom said he hopes to add both more plug-in range-extender vehicles and pure-electric models.

At present, no pure-electric cars are included because of the logistics and expense involved in installing a charging point when the car could only be on-site short term, but the lease firm is working on a temporary charging solution with partner EDF that would solve the issue.

Wisdom also said other range-extenders could be added if agreement can be reached over terms with manufacturers.

"In the next month or two we would like to be able to do any ultra low-emission vehicle," he told BusinessCar.
