More space and efficiency for new Volkswagen Golf estate

Date: 21 March 2013   |   Author:

Volkswagen's new Golf Estate will arrive in October, joining the hatchback model launched at the beginning of 2013.

The German firm is claiming the new car has a sportier appearance than its utilitarian predecessor thanks to the rearmost side window being designed into the rear D-pillar.

Boot space us up by 100 litres on the previous fifth-generation Golf Estate to 605, and with the rear seats folded that goes up by 125 to 1620 litres.

Three petrol engines and three diesels make up the launch range, including a Bluemotion model for the first time, emitting 87g/km and offering an official 85.6mpg from the 110hp 1.6-litre engine, just 2.7mpg off the five-door Bluemotion's figures.

Prices and full specification will be revealed ahead of VW opening the order book in July.
