The start point for the best source of fleet information

RAC moves into business car telematics market

Date: 25 September 2013

The RAC has entered the competitive telematics sector with the launch of a new fleet-focused product to complement the retail and driver-orientated RAC Advance launched last month.

RAC Telematics is the firm's attempt to get into the business-to-business sector, targeting both the 25,000 companies it has existing breakdown or accident management relationships with, as well as the wider corporate community.

The in-car technology is the size of a matchbox and can be fitted in minutes, allowing fleets to track the location, mileage and behaviour of their drivers, which has the additional benefit of allowing the RAC or fleet managers to pinpoint the car's location in the event of a breakdown or accident.

The company said it will also be adding extra features in the coming months, including diagnostic capabilities that will warn of imminent problems such as battery or mechanical failure and diagnose the cause without needing to send out a mechanic.

"The service offers a variety of benefits that deliver a great-value proposition for companies of all sizes," said RAC director of business services David Aldridge. "The RAC is dedicated to developing technology that makes a significant difference to a business, both on an operational level and to the bottom line."
