Audi drops A6 hybrid from range

Date: 28 October 2014   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

Audi has discontinued its A6 hybrid model due to a worldwide lack of demand.

A 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine producing 208hp mated to a 44hp electric motor powered the hybrid. It emitted 145g/km CO2 and averaged 45.6mpg.

Worldwide, the German car maker sold around 4000 A6 hybrids while in the UK just 53 were sold between 2010 and 2014.

A spokesman for the company told BusinessCar that the model was axed "because the hybrid technology wasn't as good in 2010 as it is now." He refused to comment on whether or not it would pave the way for an e-tron or plug-in hybrid model in the near future.

Audi is looking to expand its e-tron / plug-in hybrid range in addition to the A3 with a Q7 model next year.
