BMW launches X4 off-roader

Date: 12 March 2014

BMW has added to its range of niche 4x4s.

The new X4 offers a similar visual template to the X6 coupe/SUV in a smaller package, and uses the X3's sub-structure, but is 14mm longer and 36mm lower. BMW claims this gives the model a more sporting stance.

The car will be entirely diesel-powered, in 2.0 and 3.0 guises with the range-topping xDrive35d 3.0 employing twin turbos.

As the X4 slots into BMW's range above the X3 it gets additional kit, such as automatically opening tailgate and Xenon headlights.

Prices will range from £36,590 to £48,990 on the road, and UK sales are expected to start in mid-July.
