The start point for the best source of fleet information

Police cleaning up the streets

Date: 18 August 2014

South Yorkshire Police has joined a Europe-wide initiative to improve local air quality by cutting transport-related emissions.

Funded by the European Commission and managed by four local authorities in South Yorkshire, ECO Stars is a voluntary scheme for fleets to help reduce emissions.

Originally set up in 2009, the UK franchise is currently managed by four local authorities in South Yorkshire but now has been rolled out to 10 other areas.

South Yorkshire Police is the 89th fleet to join the scheme that now covers over 7500 vehicles and 25,000 in wider Europe.

ECO Stars works by auditing the fleet and giving it a score out of five for emissions. South Yorkshire Police was rated '3'. The force will now have a 'road map' created by ECO Stars to show how it can improve and gain the remaining two stars.
