Prius tops fastest used-car selling list in December, says Glass's

Date: 19 December 2014   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

The Toyota Prius has topped vehicle data provider Glass's monthly 'Hot Five' list of the fastest-selling used cars.

Glass's said that despite there being more Priuses in the market, demand for the hybrid is still strong, with many now being used as taxis.

Chevrolet's Orlando and Cruze models make up second and third places, with the valuation service suggesting the American company's demise from the UK market is prompting increased desirability, and the Skoda Yeti and Audi Q3 make up the other two places.

The average selling price for the top five selling cars is £14,782.

At the other end of the spectrum, the Renault Scenic was the slowest-selling used car in December, with Glass's putting the problem with finding a tidy example as the main reason for buyers staying away from the French MPV.

The other cars making up the top five slowest sellers are the Suzuki S Cross, Vauxhall Cascada, Seat Toledo and Mitsubishi Mirage, with the average selling price for the top five slowest selling cars being £13,483.

The firm recently appointed Rupert Pontin as its new head of valuations, replacing Richard Parkin.

Pontin re-joined Glass's in April 2013, having worked for the firm in the 1990s, and was previously chief car editor, but now steps up in the wake of his predecessor's departure in the direction of accountancy firm Grant Thorton as part of its automotive umbrella.
