Vauxhall adds 1.6-litre diesel engine to Mokka

Date: 02 October 2014   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

Vauxhall has announced at the Paris motor show that it is adding its 1.6-litre diesel engine to the Mokka range.

Known as the 'whisper diesel' engine by the company, it will replace the current 1.7-litre unit in the Mokka line-up.

The engine produces 136hp, emits 109g/km CO2 and 58.9mpg according to Vauxhall. It will become the most frugal Mokka yet when it goes on sale in at the start of 2015.

Featuring stop/start technology and a braking energy recuperation system as standard, the Mokka's 1.6-litre engine will be mated to a six-speed manual transmission on both the front and four-wheel drive versions of the sports utility vehicle.

The unit is already in the Astra, Meriva and Zafira Tourer models, and the British car maker claims that it has achieved best-in-class values for noise generation, vibration and running refinement.

It is part of Vauxhall's new family of all-aluminium diesel engines which are euro-6 compliant.

Vauxhall has not announced any prices for the new engine, but expect it to cost around £18,000 - the price of a Moka with the outgoing 1.7-litre engine.
