Date: 18 March 2015   |   Author:

Vehicle Excise Duty will rise with in line with the Retail Price Index from 1 April 2015, which means a £5 increase in the standard rate for cars over 200g/km.

First year rates are more impacted as they are higher for more polluting vehicles, with a £5 increase for new cars registered that are between 166-225g/km, and a £10 rise for new cars over 225g/km. First registration VED on a car over 255h/km will now cost £1100.

Everything below 165g/km remains unchanged, which means a zero annual cost for cars up to 100g/km, and zero first year cost for cars under 131g/km.

VED for vans registered after March 2001 also remain unchanged at £140 per year for Euro4 and Euro5-compliant vans, while previous technology costs £225 per year.
