The start point for the best source of fleet information

Croydon tops company car breakdown list, says RAC

Date: 29 June 2015   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

Croydon has been crowned the most likely place for company car drivers to break down, according to research by the RAC.

According to the breakdown recovery provider, the London borough has topped the list since 2010 ahead of the likes of Brent, Southwark, Dartford and Newcastle-under-Lyme.

The RAC compiled five years of fleet breakdown data to create the list. It also looked at which stretches of road had the most call outs.

In 2014, the M6 at Knutsford topped the list with other breakdown hotspots including the M6 at Coventry and the A316 near Sudbury-on-Thames.

December and January were the busiest months for recoveries over the past five years, the RAC said. It put the spike down to cooler weather and vehicles remaining parked for long periods of time over the Christmas break.

"When company vehicles break down, it's not just an inconvenience to drivers, but a business' time that's being wasted. This can have a major impact on productivity and a company's bottom line," said RAC business corporate sales director, Jenny Powley. "Outer London boroughs like Croydon are hubs for business activity with a huge amount of traffic passing through and as such, are busy places for fleet breakdowns. There are also a lot of commuters who live in the area and need help even when close to home."
