Mercedes has revealed its S-class cabriolet ahead of it arriving in the UK next spring.

Based on the existing S-class coupe, it is available with two engine options: a 455 hp 4.6-litre V8 badged S500, and a 585hp 5.5-litre V8 badged S63 AMG.

The lower powered engine emits 199g/km of CO2, while the high-performance AMG model emits 244g/km of CO2.

The German car maker claims the model weighs the same as the coupe, thanks to it constructing the luggage compartment and floor from lightweight materials.

Mercedes claims the three-layer roof can be opened and closed while on the move at speeds of up to 37mph, with the operation taking around 20 seconds.

Inside, the S-class cabrio features "an open-air lounge" which Mercedes claims creates "a yacht-like atmosphere", while customers have the choice of three leather designs, plus six different interior colours, include a maritime-inspired combination of sea-blue and porcelain.

The cabrio is optionally available with the company's Aircap wind deflector and daught-stop which are located behind the rear seats. An airscarf neck-level heating system is also optionally available.

The S-class cabrio also premiers a climate control system which will feature on all future Mercedes convertibles, whereby the driver does not need to select a mode for open or closed-top, as the car's sensors are able to automatically adjust the temperature.

Armrests on the centre console, the sides of the doors and the steering wheel can also be heated with an optional Warmth Comfort package, while in-cab fragrances can be optioned with the Air-Balance package.

"The new S-Class cabriolet symbolises our passion for individual and timelessly exclusive mobility, which we share with our customers", said Ola Källenius, board member of Mercedes-Benz cars sales.

UK specifications and prices set to be announced nearer to the on-sale date.
