Highways England removes roadworks for August bank holiday weekend

Date: 28 August 2015   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

Highways England has announced it is removing more than 400 miles of roadworks from motorways and major roads this weekend, to improve traffic flows over the bank holiday weekend.

The Government-owned company said it will suspend or complete 177 sets of roadworks for the late August getaway.

Roadworks will have been removed by 6am this morning (Friday 28 August), leaving 97.4% of Highways England's 9534-mile network free of roadworks.

In all, 432 miles of roadworks will be removed, while Highways England is completing 115 projects and suspending a further 62 sets of roadworks over the bank holiday weekend.

"To help road users enjoy this bank holiday weekend, we're completing or suspending over 400 miles of roadworks on motorways and major trunk roads," said Simon Sheldon-Wilson, director of customer operations at Highways England.

Sheldon-Wilson added: "But we're still asking people to play their part by planning their journeys and making use of the traffic information services we provide."
