ICFM conference: Data management warning

Date: 18 November 2015   |   Author:

ICFM delegates were warned by cyber security expert Hugh Boyes from Warwick University that they need policies in place regarding access to the data that vehicles and telematics devices collect on staff.

"Think carefully about who has access to the data, and what methods are in place," he said. "It could show sensitive sites, conferences, meetings - does someone know if all the senior executives are gathering? It shows commuter routes, patterns of life information, and [think about] what happens the first time you have a legal enquiry to have access to that data from a third party, for a speeding case or even from a divorce lawyer.

"It's about people, processes and approach. we make it safe if we address all the elements. It's not just about the technology," said Boyes.
