TomTom launches Android sat nav app

Date: 25 March 2015   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

TomTom has launched a satellite navigation app for Android smartphones based on its Go sat-nav range.

The telematics giant said the app, called Go Mobile, would work in 111 countries without a network connection. It features the same interface as the Go unit, and includes offline maps, TomTom's traffic alerts and speed camera warnings.

The app is free and can be downloaded from the Google Play store, however it only offers 50 miles worth of navigation a month for free.  Once the monthly allocation has been used, drivers can upgrade to unlimited driving through an in-app purchase, which costs either £14.99 for a year or £34.99 for three years.

"The TomTom Go Mobile app for Android is made for drivers who want to experience the best of TomTom on their smartphone," said Corinne Vigreux, Managing Director, TomTom. "We have entirely re-thought our mobile solution so every driver has the chance to try navigation with TomTom Traffic."
