Ford has not confirmed whether it will continue producing a Fiesta Van when it launches the next generation of its supermini passenger car next year.
Ford sold 2600 examples of the car-derived van in the first eight months of 2016 making it the biggest-selling small van in the UK.
But the brand's compact cubed van, the Transit Courier, also operates in the small van sector and although sales of 1900 units in the year to 31 August did not keep pace with the Fiesta Van, Ford made it clear when it launched the Courier in 2014 that it saw the model outstripping the Fiesta Van going forward due to its more practical load carrying proposition. The Courier offers a 660kg payload and 2.4m3 loadspace compared to the 508kg and 1.0m3 of the Fiesta Van.
Paul Baynes, Ford's CV sales and marketing manager in the UK, claimed the Courier should start to register on fleets' radars more consistently now that it has been on the market for two years.
There is also speculation the manufacturer could produce a light commercial vehicle based on the five-door Ka+ hatchback that went on sale in September, which may lead Ford to consider the Fiesta Van surplus to requirements.
