Peugeot reveals new 5008 - now an SUV

Date: 13 September 2016   |   Author: Jack Carfrae

Peugeot has revealed the first official images of the 5008 in what is a radical departure from the outgoing model. Formerly a seven-seat MPV, the new version has morphed into an SUV with a completely different body shape and far higher ground clearance, though it retains it seven-seat capacity.

Built on the firm's latest EMP2 platform, the 5008 is 11cm longer than the original model, though it is no taller, and it has a boot capacity of 780 litres with the two rearmost seats folded down. UK versions will be available with a series of as-yet unspecified petrol and diesel engines, with CO2 emissions starting at 117g/km for the petrols and 108g/km for the diesels. Fuel economy and performance figures are yet to be revealed.

Four trim levels will be available: Active, Allure, GT Line and GT and Peugeot will offer a series of active safety features such as park assist, adaptive cruise control and smart beam assistance. There will also be the option of an electrically assisted scooter or bike - known as the e-Kick and e-Bike eF01 respectively - integrated into the boot.

The 5008 will be revealed at the Paris motor show later this month and is due to go on sale in the UK in spring 2017.
