Charge Your Car customers to pay for recharges

Date: 29 March 2017   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

Electric vehicle charging network Charge Your Car has announced it will apply £1 connection fees to its public chargers in England and Wales from 1 May.

The firm - which operates 1,703 plugs in the UK - said the price adjustment - at present the chargers are free to use - would more accurately reflect the value customers get, and added the increase in revenue would be able to make "significant improvements" to the network.

CYC claimed the level of activity across its free network has increased three-fold in the last year, connecting 30,000 drivers to charging points in 2016.

Fleet managers and individual drivers - the company offers access to charging data and multiple log-ins to one account for businesses - will be invoiced monthly, the firm said in a statement on its website.

"The fee will ensure we can continue to operate the 24-hour customer telephone line, support the growing demand on the network, and continue to develop and maintain online resources for our customers," CYC said.

The company added: "The connection fee will also recognise that more of the burden of the cost of operating the network is needing to be met by the driver rather than the site owner. CYC in parallel to introduction of this connection charge is reducing its network tariffs to site hosts on next renewal."
