Chargepoint places £1 million order for new charging points

Date: 28 July 2017   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

Electric vehicle charging point software company Chargepoint Services has placed an order for 50 rapid charging points.

The order comes as Chargepoint is expanding its Geniepoint network of chargers across the country.

These units will be built by French EV hardware supplier EVTronic in a deal worth £1 million, Chargepoint said, with the first unit due for delivery by the end of August and the rest arriving within the next three months.

According to EVTronic, the unit features smart energy storage systems, meaning that when it is not being used to recharge an electric vehicle battery it will automatically store electricity then deliver it in a quick burst when a vehicle is connected.

The company also claims the units are able to keep pace with the expected growth in vehicle battery sizes in the coming years.

"Electric vehicle charging is now a critical public service," said Alex Bamberg, managing director of Chargepoint Services. "With battery technology constantly being developed to improve capacity and reduce re-charging time, the driving range of vehicles is increasing dramatically. To support this accelerating progress, EV charging equipment must incorporate the latest technologies, as well as being extremely reliable for public use."

He added: "For the expansion of our GeniePoint network, we have chosen EVTronic chargers due to their unique energy storage capability and robust reliability, their high level of functionality and total integration with our GeniePoint platform.  This will ensure drivers using the GeniePoint network get the best possible user experience when recharging their vehicle."

Vincent Beudin, vice-president of business development at EVTronic, said. "We are very pleased to be partnering with Chargepoint Services in the UK ? their GeniePoint platform back office system integrates perfectly with our chargers to provide world-class, integrated functionality capable of providing rapid charging to the electric vehicles of today and tomorrow."
