Chris Wright named as new Cap HPI MD

Date: 24 July 2017   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

Automotive data expert Cap HPI has appointed Chris Wright to the role of managing director.

Wright replaces Ian Rendall, who held the position for the last seven years, and is spending some time away from the business.

Previously a sales director for CAP HPI, Wright will report to parent company Solera and will be responsible for the expansion of the business in the UK.

"Cap HPI is leading an unprecedented period of change in the automotive sector," said Wright. "Technology is changing the vehicles we drive, how and when we drive them, and how we own them. Data underpins a lot of the change and will be the new oil that drives the sector."

He added: "We are investing in our people, technology and data to ensure we can deliver valuable insight and new tools across the industry. We believe a single global code will help the industry drive innovation and growth throughout the vehicle lifecycle. Data-led businesses will be able to scale internationally in a fraction of the time and with much less cost."

Earlier this month, Cap HPI said increasing interest in alternatively-powered vehicles has helped boost used electric values by 7% this year.

The firm said that range-extender models such as the BMW i3 are driving most of the recent growth thanks to good specification levels and brand prestige.

Cap HPI added that the Nissan Leaf with the larger 30kW/h powertrain is attracting higher used values than versions fitted with the smaller 24kW/h motor. The firm also said that values of petrol hybrids grew by up to 3.9% in the last month.

The rise in values follows on from a recent news story in which remarketing company Shoreham Vehicle Auctions (SVA) called on leasing companies to "get off the fence" and start embracing EVs to give them more attractive residual values.
