Vauxhall has revealed the first images of its all-new Insignia Country Tourer model ahead of its debut at the Frankfurt motor show in September.

The British manufacturer - which is soon to join the PSA Group - claimed the new model is more spacious and lighter than the previous variant thanks to an all-new platform, with a wheelbase 92mm longer than its predecessor.

Bootspace has also increased - by 135 litres, to 1,665 litres.

Other than saying there will be a "broad powertrain portfolio including a brand-new diesel engine" little is known about the model's engine line-up at this stage, but Vauxhall has confirmed the car will be available with an eight-speed automatic gearbox and a four-wheel drive system.

The firm claimed the new model has a ground clearance 20mm higher than the standard model, making the car more suitable for those in rural areas, while the company's FlexRide chassis system automatically adjusts the car's damping, steering and throttle response depending on road conditions.

Inside, the Country Tourer includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity systems, as well as the latest version of the company's IntelliLink infotainment system and the firm's OnStar assistant.

As with the Grand Sport and Sports Tourer, the Country Tourer is equipped with the firm's LED headlights, which have a range of up to 400m, while the car has a copious amount of safety kit including autonomous emergency braking, lane keeping assist and a rear cross-traffic alert tool.

"The Country Tourer takes the Insignia story a step further. With its all-wheel drive capability, raised ground clearance and rugged appearance, it adds another important dimension to the new Insignia range," said Rory Harvey, Vauxhall's chairman and managing director.
