Fleets urged to look beyond diesel when replacing cars

Date: 15 May 2017   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

Diesel may not be the default choice of power for fleets, Puddy Vehicle Solutions has warned.

The fleet management company interpreted the Government's recently published air quality improvement paper as saying businesses should avoid purchasing diesel vehicles wherever possible.

In response to the Government document, PVS has published a document, Shaping Fleets for the Future: What Fuel Choice Will You Make Your Next Vehicle?

In it, PVS said there is no definitive right fleet fuel choice, adding that all fuel types have their merits and drawbacks, though it predicts a plugged-in future: "For the foreseeable future there will be a mix of fuel types, but the trend will be to move towards more plug-in technology," said Marcus Puddy, managing director of Puddy Vehicle Solutions. "There are many pros and cons for fleets regarding all vehicle fuel types. Ultimately it comes down to vehicle whole life costs based on the type of journeys company cars will be undertaking,"

He added: "The white paper gives fleet decision-makers food for thought and raises various factors that must be considered for each fuel type that can be used as a starting point in the decision-making process. Many employees that have fleet responsibility today are not full-time fleet professionals so may not be aware of all the nuances that must be taken account of when reviewing vehicle replacement."
