Ford has confirmed it will launch a fully electric SUV with a range of at least 300 miles by 2020.
This will be the American manufacturer's first foray into the UK electric vehicle market other than the Focus Electric model, which sold in limited numbers.
The announcement comes as the firm detailed seven of the 13 new electrified vehicles it plans to introduce globally over the next five years. Ford is investing $4.5bn into electric vehicles by 2020 as it aims to transform itself into an automotive mobility company, rather than just a car maker.
Other models planned include a plug-in hybrid Transit Custom van, which is due on the roads in 2019, and hybrid versions of its Mustang sports car and F-150 pick-up for its home market.
The company also announced it will launch a suite of services to make EVs easier to live with, including mobility services, telematics and connectivity solutions, though details are thin on the ground of what these entail at this stage.

"Our investments and expanding lineup reflect our view that global offerings of electrified vehicles will exceed gasoline-powered vehicles within the next 15 years."
