Nissan adds low-CO2 petrol engine to Micra range

Date: 23 May 2017   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

Nissan has added a 71hp petrol three-cylinder engine to its Micra supermini.

On sale now, priced from £11,995, the Japanese company said it expects the new power unit to account for 15% of UK sales.

The unit returns 61.4mpg and emits 103g/km of CO2, placing it in the 19% 2017/18 benefit-in-kind tax bracket.

It joins the Micra's existing line-up of the 90hp 0.9-litre petrol unit and 90hp 1.5-litre diesel engine.

The new Micra - which went on sale earlier this year - is longer, wider and lower than the previous-generation model, and Nissan claimed it has been conceived, designed and engineered with European customers in mind.

Nissan also claimed the Micra offers various technologies which are new to the segment, including a lane correction system, which "gently corrects the Micra back on to the right path should it be required" and a Bose sound system.

When BusinessCar drove the Micra at the start of the year, we said the new Micra "has been built to impress", giving it a rating of 9/10 and praising the amount of standard kit on offer and its attractive styling.
