Seat confirms new flagship large SUV for 2018

Date: 23 March 2017   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

Seat has confirmed it will expand its model range with a flagship SUV, due to reach dealerships next year.

The Spanish firm said the new model - unnamed thus far - will be positioned a segment above the Ateca crossover and will be available with either five or seven seats.

That means the new model is likely to rival the likes of Nissan's X-Trail 4x4. It will be the third SUV in the firm's line-up alongside the aforementioned Ateca and the Ibiza-based Arona, due later this year.

It will be built at Volkswagen's plant in Wolfsburg and will share its platform with the Skoda Kodiaq.

Seat's new model announcement comes as the firm revealed it posted the best financial results in its history last year - an operating profit of £123m on worldwide sales of 410,000 vehicles.

"This car will bring new customers to us, will boost brand image and will have a very big effect on our ability to generate margins. It will be designed in Barcelona and made in Germany. Producing the new SUV in Wolfsburg, in the heart of the Group, will reinforce the ties between Seat and Volkswagen," said Seat president, Luca de Meo.
