The start point for the best source of fleet information

Use data to reduce accident rates, says Chevin

Fleets can do more to improve driver safety and accident management by harnessing the vast amounts of data they sit on, fleet management software company Chevin has said.

Chevin said data-led risk-profiling - including action and re-measurement of vehicle and driver risk - could help to reduce the likelihood of incidents occurring, as managers will be able to identify the most 'at-risk' drivers and vehicles.

It said its Fleetwave software can create driver risk profiles by taking into account various data feeds, including driver accident history, the number of fines accrued and the amount of training each driver has received.

The Fleetwave tool is also able to record vehicle information, such as service inspection and routing histories.

"While there is a recognised need to reduce risk, not enough is being done to actively identify why incidents are occurring and take adequate preventative actions," said Ashley Sowerby, managing director of Chevin.

Sowerby added: "Accidents cost fleets millions of pounds annually. They can cause injuries and fatalities, and can do great harm to a company's reputation. Data-led risk profiling can be extremely beneficial for helping control accidents and manage incidents at all stages."
