Used car values rise in January, says BCA

Date: 08 February 2017   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

Used cars sold at auction last month hit the second-highest prices on record, the latest BCA Pulse report has revealed.

According to the remarketing giant, values rose by 3.3% (£278) compared with December 2016 to hit £8,619 - the second highest figure since the Pulse began tracking values on a monthly basis since 2005.

Overall, values were £742 ahead compared with January 2016, with the average age and mileage falling by three months and 4,000 miles respectively.

"Business really accelerated into the new year at BCA, following on from an equally busy December.   For the first time in several years, average values rose in January compared to December, despite stock levels rising to record levels during the month," said Simon Henstock, BCA chief operating officer for UK remarketing.

Average values for ex-fleet and lease cars rose for the first time since last October, hitting £10,163 - the second highest figure on record, while year-on-year values are ahead by £723.

Nearly-new values, however, fell by £5,063 compared with December's figures, with BCA blaming the models on offer during the month for the decline in the low-volume sector, while the year-on-year values are down by £2,194.
