Brake webinar to help fleets address drink and drug driving

Date: 08 November 2018   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Road safety charity Brake is holding a free webinar about how employers, and fleet and road safety professionals can tackle drink and drug driving.

The webinar, to be delivered by Brake's membership service Brake Professional, is sponsored by Dtec International, and will cover the risks associated with driving under the influence of drink and drugs, including over the counter and prescription medication.

It will also look at the risks involved in driving the morning after consuming alcohol or drugs.

Brake senior fleet officer Sarah Plumb said: "Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is one of the biggest killers on our roads, and employers have a responsibility to ensure their drivers are alcohol and drug free.

"I encourage all those with responsibility for at-work drivers to attend the webinar."

Dtec International managing director Ean Lewin said: "Dtec International see the horrendous results of driving drugged or drunk from our work with every police force in England and Wales using DrugWipe as their roadside drug driver screener.

"Our calculations show that the police are currently arresting over 25,000 drug drivers a year. Many of these drivers are in company trucks, vans and cars whilst at work or on their way to work.

"Dtec International are pleased to be working with Brake on this webinar to look at ways in which companies are mitigating their personal liability, and how they can make the roads and their workplace safer for staff and the public."

The webinar is on 14 November. Attendance can be booked on the Brake Professional website.
