Chargemaster plans 2,000 new Polar charging points

Date: 08 February 2018   |   Author: Sean Keywood

The UK's largest electric vehicle charging network is set for a major expansion.

Chargemaster says its Polar network will get 2,000 new charging points during 2018, including around 400 rapid chargers.

The company says it is focusing the expansion on key strategic locations such as hotels, petrol stations, sports clubs and shopping centres.

By the end of the year, it says the Polar network will comprise more than 8,500 charging points, including 700 rapid chargers.

Chargemaster installed more than 30 rapid chargers in January, including more than 20 in London, where they are expected to help charge new electric taxis.

New rapid chargers have also been installed in Canterbury, Rotherham and Swansea.

Chargemaster chief executive David Martell said: "The Polar network will maintain its position as the UK's largest public charging network, providing convenient and reliable charging for EV drivers across the country.

"Over 40,000 drivers already rely on our network, which gives them access to over 40% of all public charging points on UK-wide networks, backed up with our dedicated 24/7 customer support."

Chargemaster's network expansion will see it working with companies including hotel group IHG, supermarket chain Asda, shopping centre firm intu and Q-Park car parks.
