Chargemaster receives Ashden Award

Date: 15 June 2018   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Electric vehicle (EV) charge point firm Chargemaster has won a prestigious environmental award.

The Ashden Award for Clean Air in Towns and Cities was presented during a ceremony at the Royal Geographical Society in London.

The awards recognise sustainable energy pioneers, and a total of ten were presented, with winners receiving a prize of up to £20,000 along with tailored support to help scale up their work.

Chargemaster operates the Polar network, which consists of more than 6,500 public charge points, including more than 350 rapid chargers, and has also installed more than 45,000 home charging points through partnerships with vehicle manufacturers.

The firm has also developed an EV Experience Centre in Milton Keynes, which operates as a multi-brand EV showroom, providing information, advice and test drives with a staff of EV experts.

The Ashden judges said: "Chargemaster has an impressive, innovative business model that is kickstarting the EV revolution by rapidly rolling out high-quality British-built charging infrastructure and removing barriers to widespread adoption of EVs."

Chargemaster chief executive David Martell collected the award from Michaela Wright, head of corporate sustainability at HSBC UK, which sponsored the award.

Martell said: "We are thrilled to have won an Ashden Award. Everyone in our business is committed to supporting electric vehicles and enabling zero-emission motoring, and winning an Ashden Award is a clear sign to us and our industry that we are leading the way and doing the right thing."
