Audi has introduced a new diesel engine option for its A6 executive car and A7 Sportback coupe.

The 2.0-litre, 204hp engine is badged as 40 TDI, and comes paired with a seven-speed automatic gearbox.

It will come initially as front-wheel drive, with four-wheel drive models following later in 2018.

0-62mph acceleration times are 8.1 seconds for the A6 saloon, and 8.3 seconds for the other two models.

Prices for cars with the new engine start at £38,640 for an A6 saloon in Sport trim.

All the models are available to order now, with deliveries starting for the A6 in September, and the A7 Sportback in November.
