Date: 09 August 2018   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Volvo has made a new petrol engine available with its S90 executive saloon, V90 estate and XC90 SUV.

The 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo petrol engine, badged as T5, produces 250hp and 350nm of torque, and is paired as standard with an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

The new engine features a variable valve system, designed to improve driveability as well as overall efficiency, along with advanced combustion control and measures to reduce power losses from internal friction.

When installed in the front-wheel drive S90, it achieves an official combined fuel economy of 42.8mpg and CO2 emissions of 154g/km.

These figures are 41.5mpg and 157g/km in the front-wheel drive V90, 38.2mpg and 172g/km in the four-wheel drive V90 Cross Country model, and 35.8mpg and 184g/km in the four-wheel drive XC90.

Acceleration times from 0-62mph are 6.8 seconds for the S90, seven seconds for the V90, 7.4 seconds for the V90 Cross Country, and 7.9 seconds for the XC90.

Order books for the cars with the new engine fitted are open now. Prices started at £41,120 for the S90, £43,120 for the V90, £44,685 for the V90 Cross Country, and £50,435 for the XC90.
