New Toyota RAV4 revealed

Date: 28 March 2018   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Toyota has unveiled its all new RAV4 SUV.

The new RAV4, the fifth generation of the model, will be introduced in the UK in the first quarter of 2019.

Two powertrains will be available - a 2.5-litre hybrid combining electric power with a petrol engine, and a conventional standalone 2.0-litre petrol unit.

Both options will be available with four-wheel drive, and the petrol engine comes with a choice of manual or automatic transmission.

Compared with the previous RAV4, the wheelbase has been extended by 30mm, allowing the designers to provide more cabin space and a bigger boot, which can be used in conjunction with folding rear seats, a double load floor and deck side nets.

The car is also 10mm wider than the previous model, but the front and rear overhangs have been reduced.

The car is based on the Toyota New Global Architecture platform, which allows for a low centre of gravity, optimised weight distribution and a more rigid body construction.

The manufacturer says it provides improvements in ride, handling, safety and driver enjoyment.

UK prices and full specifications are yet to be confirmed.
