Date: 05 March 2018   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Mercedes-Benz has confirmed UK prices and specifications for its new A-Class hatchback.

Three engines will be available from launch, with the range starting from £25,800 for an A-Class with a 1.5-litre diesel engine, and rising to £27,500 for a 1.4-litre petrol and £30,240 for a 2.0-litre petrol.

The diesel, fitted to 180d models, produces 116hp and achieves a combined fuel economy of 68.9mpg.

For the smaller petrol engine, fitted to models badged 200, the respective figures are 163hp and 51.4mpg, while the larger petrol - initially scheduled by Mercedes for later in the year but now available from launch - appears in models badged 250, and offers 224hp and 45.6mpg.

Three trim options will be available - SE, Sport and AMG Line - and all three engines will come with a seven-speed automatic gearbox.

The entry-level SE comes as standard with two 7in screens, including a central touchscreen with the new MBUX multimedia system, featuring 'Hey Mercedes' voice activation.

Also standard on the SE are comfort suspension, 16in alloy wheels, DAB radio, Artico leather and Bertrix fabric upholstery, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Speed Limit Assist, keyless go starting function and air conditioning.

The Sport trim line adds LED high performance headlights, 17in alloy wheels, Artico and Fléron fabric upholstery and automatic climate control.

AMG Line customers will get 18in AMG alloy wheels, AMG bodystyling, Artico and Dinamica microfibre upholstery and a three-spoke sports steering wheel.

Customers are also able to specify a number of option packs for the new A-Class.

The Executive equipment package costs £1,395 and upgrades the standard 7in central touchscreen to a 10.25in display, as well as adding Active Parking Assist with Parktronic, heated front seats and the Mirror package.

For £2,395, customers can specify the Premium equipment line which, in addition to the Executive line, adds a 10.25in cockpit display, 64-colour ambient lighting, illuminated door sills, upgraded sound system, full keyless go including the doors, and rear armrest.

The Premium Plus equipment line includes the Premium and Executive lines, and adds memory function for the driver and front passenger seats, multibeam LED headlights with Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus and a panoramic sunroof.

The Advanced Navigation package, which costs £495 and is only available in conjunction with the Executive, Premium or Premium Plus equipment lines, introduces augmented reality into the sat-nav system, using a camera to overlay the navigation display with the actual road ahead.

The Advanced Navigation package also adds Traffic Sign Assist.

The new A-Class is available to order now, with the first deliveries scheduled for late May.
