Europcar launches hourly hire programme

Europcar is launching what it claims to be a pioneering and cost-saving hourly car and van hire scheme from just £10 an hour with the aim of providing greater choice, flexibility and lower rental bills for business users.

Ken McCall, managing director of Europcar UK Group, said that some businesses were deterred from committing to the cost of a traditional full day's hire, which prompted his company's move.

He added: "For businesses that need extra transport quickly, vehicle hire can be an incredibly flexible solution. With hourly hire service we wanted to break the rules to give businesses, especially small and medium-sized enterprises and sole traders, more flexibility and take away the barrier of cost."

The scheme is designed for quick turn-around journeys, involving urgent deliveries or collecting new stock or supplies. The hourly rates start from £10 for cars and £11 for vans, with a minimum two-hour and maximum eight-hour hire period.

Check-outs are only permitted between Monday to Friday around the UK and Monday to Wednesday in central London, while van hire does not apply to airports.

Meanwhile, Europcar has also launched a new iPhone app, allowing customers to make reservations and find details of any site worldwide. It will also enable the checking of rates and promotional offers and managing or changing reservations, as well as booking extras such as satnav and child seats.

"The launch of the Europcar app forms part of our commitment to embracing new technology and meeting the ever-changing needs of our customers. For travellers on the move, the Europcar app offers convenient, quality car hire at their fingertips."
