Volvo unveils larger V70

Date: 04 February 2007   |   Author:

There's a new, more stylish way to carry big loads or dogs, with Volvo releasing the first pictures of its all-new V70.

Arriving in the UK this October after a debut at next month's Geneva motor show, the new estate is the first car to use Volvo's new 285PS turbocharged engine. The 3.0-litre T6 unit headlines a range that covers three petrols and two diesels. A sixth engine will be added in late 2007, a 145PS version of the 2.5-litre petrol, capable of running on bio-ethanol.

The car's bigger than its predecessor, with an extra 60 litres of load-carrying capacity, and the loadbay gets aluminium rails and movable anchoring points. A powered tailgate and sliding load floor will both be on the options list.

As expected from Volvo, there's plenty of standard safety kit. As well as the usual six airbags, there's a host of optional safety equipment, including Volvo's blind-spot warning system, adaptive cruise control with collision warning, and the personal car communicator that warns the driver from up to 100 metres away if the alarm has been set off, as well as being able to lock and unlock the car and use a heartbeat sensor to tell the owner is someone is in the car.

The XC70, Volvo's jacked-up off-roader version, will also be revealed at the Geneva show in early March, with the Swedish brand keeping the car's new look a secret until then.
