I drove a 150hp 2.0 HDi 3008 recently to compare with our long-term 110hp 1.6, and it didn’t disappoint, with noticeable extra grunt when the accelerator was pressed.

But, did I miss the 2.0 when I returned to the 1.6 afterwards? Not enough. The 1.6 is still a tidy and refined engine that pulls well and copes with all I throw at it, even when fully loaded on motorways. Oh, and its £1000 cheaper, 5mpg more frugal, pumps out fewer emissions (by 9g/km), which equates to lower BIK tax (19% vs. 21%) and £15 less VED. No contest.
