Awards 2011 - Supermini: Mini

Date: 25 January 2011

The Audi A1 finally gave the Mini some premium-badged competition this year, but the reigning champion, with its astounding residual values and running costs, came through to grab this BusinessCar Award once more to make it nine straight wins in the supermini segment since the arrival of the first generation car.

It was a year of change for the Mini hatchback range, with a new sub-100g/km model arriving alongside the mid-life facelift made up of interior improvements, new front and rear bumpers and new tail lights, among other tweaks. The 1.6-litre diesel engine offers 74.3mpg to go with the 99g/km, but can still make the 0-62mph run in 9.7 seconds.

For the first time there's also a diesel convertible, with the Cooper D coming in at 105g/km and 70.6mpg. The mid-life refresh also lifted the standard spec, with all Mini models except the entry-level First now getting a DAB digital radio as standard, as well as heated wing mirrors and washer jets.
