Our XF turned airport taxi for the visit of Australian relatives
Category: Executive
P11D price: £43,970
Key rival: BMW 5-series

The day after our new XF arrived it was pressed into a week's action, ferrying my Australian relatives on the English leg of a world tour.

My car-nut cousin Paul was impressed by the looks, interior and quality, and was especially blown away by the refinement and performance of the 275PS 3.0-litre diesel engine. The excellent iPod connectivity, meanwhile, kept his 12-year old daughter Ashleigh entertained, even if it did mean an upsetting amount of girly pop accompanying the 700 miles we covered that week. The average 32.4mpg was acceptable given we were five-up most of the time, though I'm hoping to see that figure rise closer to the claimed combined 42.0mpg with some lengthy football-related trips on the horizon.
